Educational Studies is a non-certifying program for students interested in exploring the field of education. An emphasis on alternative pathways into the classroom and varying professions that support education in the public and private sector are explored. Individual experiences can be designed based on student interests and future goals with personalized advising.
Mission: The mission of the Educational Studies Program is to provide a foundation for students interested in developing an understanding of developmental psychology, advocacy and instructional pedagogy while developing the dispositions of professionalism with an emphasis on effective communication, leadership, and collaboration. Understanding learners and learning, the use of evidence-based practices, collaboration to meet learner needs and an awareness of community systems that support education are the core of the major. The major does not lead to certification.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- The Teacher Candidate will demonstrate knowledge of learner development and individual learning differences.
- The Teacher Candidate will be able to apply knowledge of learner and content into practice through development of individualized plans.
- The Teacher Candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the professional dispositions required for effective collaboration with students, family members and service providers.
