The major in Chemistry offers two tracks: chemistry and biochemistry. The chemistry track prepares students for graduate work in chemistry or employment in the chemical industry. The biochemistry track prepares students for graduate work in biochemistry and the health professions.

Student Learning Outcomes

The successful student will:

• Apply theoretical principles to experimental findings in chemistry.
• Use instrumentation for chemical analysis and separation.
• Communicate chemical topics effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Critically read and analyze literature in chemistry and allied fields.
• Evaluate potential chemical and environemntal hazards.
• Analyze chemical phenomena and laboratory data using sounds mathematical, statistical, and quantitative reasoning.
• Integrate their knowledge of chemistry with key concepts in cellular and molecular biology.
