Designed for the generalist leader in higher education, the M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration combines practical skill and competency building with the theory and nuanced thinking needed for today and tomorrow’s resilient leaders. Students will engage in courses that present a full perspective of higher education in the U. S.. Through their coursework, students explore best practices in educational leadership. Students may complete an in-depth course or professional certificate in Trauma-Informed Practices, adding depth and immediate applicability to their professional endeavors.

Mission: The mission of the Higher Education Administration master’s program at Columbia College is to provide academic preparation and professional development to individuals who are currently in, or interested in, positions of leadership in four-year, community, and technical colleges and universities. A comprehensive program of study focuses on the preparation and development of reflective, ethical, and transformative practitioners.

- Analyze the characteristics of diverse students and the different student populations in postsecondary education.
- Situate refinement of their own leadership strengths within the preferred and most effective skills and competencies for leadership in higher education.
- Identify the legal foundations and assess financial constraints that affect higher education administration.
- Apply student development theory to practice.
- Identify and critique issues and trends in higher education organization and administration.
- Identify program assessment techniques for higher education.
- Research, and evaluate and a contemporary issue in higher education.
