Columbia College’s Bachelor of Arts in Disaster and Emergency Management is designed to provide a strong educational foundation for work in disaster and emergency management. Using an all-hazards approach, the curriculum prepares students to be leaders in improving preparedness, building capabilities, and coordinating response and recovery resources in a wide range of settings. The 120-credit-hour program is especially attractive to individuals already in the workforce, such as those working in response organizations, who want to expand their skills and advance their careers.

EM 110 - Psychological and Social Dimensions of Disaster Credits: 3
EM 120 - Introduction to the Science of Hazards Credits: 3
EM 201 - Planning for Emergency and Disaster Management Credits: 3
EM 204 - Communication Skills for Emergency Management Credits: 3
EM 495 - Leadership Seminar Credits: 3

Disaster and Emergency Management Concentration

21 semester hours in Emergency Management. Required courses are:

EM 210 - Community Resiliency, Recovery and Mitigation Credits: 3
EM 230 - Introduction to Public Administration Credits: 3
and 15 semester hours of EM electives. FS 280 may be applied to the EM elective hours.
