The Healthcare Studies program is designed to prepare students to become future managers, leaders, and agents of change within healthcare organizations with a commitment to improve the quality of healthcare delivery and to improve patient outcomes. 

The fully-online Healthcare Studies degree offers flexibility and affordability for the student. The program incorporates the skills instrumental in making the successful transition to management positions and leadership roles in the healthcare organization. Students pursuing a BA or BS degree in Healthcare Studies will learn effective management skills, gain insight into the various ways information technology supports patient care and healthcare administration, explore regulatory and accreditation issues for healthcare organizations, and learn how to support healthcare providers in outpatient, inpatient, and long term care facilities. 

An Associate degree with a major in an allied health area from a regionally accredited two-year college is required for this major. 

 

Students Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of organizational leadership principles involved in the administration of a healthcare organization. 
  2. Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of regulatory, accreditation, legal, and policy issues involved in healthcare organizations. 
  3. Students will be able to explain quality and performance as it relates to healthcare, explain research methodologies, and their application to healthcare research. 
  4. Students will be able to explain how information technology supports patient care.

12 semester hours from one of the two concentrations areas: General Health Care Studies or Management.
