ART 261 - History of Art: Ancient to Renaissance Historical survey of visual art works, and architecture from the Paleolithic era until and including the Renaissance. Art works are discussed in their historical, social, and political context including comparisons to other creative disciplines. Students will learn to describe, analyze, and interpret visual art works in their historical context. As a survey in art history, this class is part of a two-semester sequence (ART 261 and ART 262 ); however, each class can be taken and understood independently.
