The Columbia College Elementary Education Program is a 4-year undergraduate program preparing elementary candidates to work primarily in public and private schools (grades 2-6). Students graduate with a BA degree from the Division of Education with a major in Elementary Education. The main scope of preparation is to work with children and youth ages 7-12, although courses and field experiences introduce students to a broader developmental range. The program meets all state and national accreditation guidelines for initial certification for 4-year institutions.
Mission: The mission of the Elementary Education program area is to prepare elementary collaborative professionals who know, understand, and use the major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to child and adolescent development to construct learning opportunities that support individual student’s development, acquisition of knowledge and motivation.

The Elementary Education teacher candidate will demonstrate knowledge of content required in Elementary Education including the learner and learning, instructional practices, and professional responsibilities.

The Elementary Education teacher candidate will effectively use multiple methods of assessment to plan and make data driven instructional decisions.

The Elementary Education teacher candidate can plan and effectively implement instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
