Exercise Science, B.S.

Exercise science is the multidisciplinary study of human movement and involves a range of disciplines such as anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology and nutrition. Exercise science is home to a program that focuses on the practical and scientific practice and understanding within the exercise science, fitness, sports medicine, and health promotion domains. By the time you graduate, we’ll have prepared you to pursue a career in  a variety of health related settings from schools, colleges, clinics, and the sport/fitness industry, or to continue your studies toward an advanced degree in physical therapy, athletic training or other graduate programs in exercise science. 

Mission: Exercise Science focuses on the practical and scientific practice and understanding within the exercise science and health promotion domains. Grounded in the strong liberal arts, graduates are prepared to lead the exercise science industry in both the health and fitness related domains. 

 

Student learning Outcomes

  1. Students will describe the role of physical activity in health and wellness.
  2. Students will demonstrate an applied understanding of the structure and function of the human body.
  3. Students will examine physiological processes and adaptations to physical activity or exercise.
  4. Students will apply psychological concepts toward assessing, promoting, or enhancing exercise or health behavior changes.
  5. Students will describe proper responses to emergency situations within the health and fitness setting.
  6. Students will analyze issues of equity, diversity, inclusion, or social justice in relation to physical activity.
  7. Students will assess or interpret one’s health, physical fitness, or performance status.
  8. Students will effectively interpret information from research related to exercise science and/or public health.
